BMIP Board Member
Lovely Lacey is a champion of equity and healthcare accessibility with deep roots in organizing. Born in Tulsa, OK, and raised in Delaware (attended Cab Calloway School of the Arts!), she holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a concentration in Public Health from the University of Delaware. As a first-generation college graduate, Lovely brings lived experience and understanding to her work supporting traditionally excluded communities.
Currently working as Portfolio Manager at the Delaware Division of Small Business, Lovely works on the Business Finance Team – knee deep in reporting and compliance for federal grant dollars for Delaware's State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) program.
Beyond her professional work in economic development, Lovely is a trained birth and postpartum Doula, and a practicing full-spectrum birthworker. As a community-based doula, she brings her understanding of health disparities and equity issues to one of the most vulnerable moments in people's lives. Her doula practice is an extension of her public health background, addressing the disparities in maternal health outcomes that disproportionately affect Black/African and marginalized populations. She is particularly passionate about providing birth, postpartum, abortion, and babyloss services for all birthing persons. She has previously served on the Board of Black Mothers in Power – She is one of the founding members of the organization.
Lovely represents a new generation of leaders who refuse to separate professional achievement from community accountability, who see their multiple identities as sources of wisdom rather than barriers to overcome, and who understand that true progress requires working for liberation at every level of society.
Outside of her professional career, Lovely enjoys live music, medium-length walks on the beach, organizing for liberation, and spending time with her four-legged “Goddog”, Tallie, who she babysits on some weekends.
Why I Serve
“I joined the board because one of my most dear values is community. I know everyone in this world is either a mother or came from one. The world is made up of Mothers and their children. And the health of a society is based on how their women and children are fairing.
I am committed to making society a better place for mothers and their children which is to say - for everyone!
I am a trained full spectrum doula and take my work as a community based Birthworker quite seriously. Black Mothers in Power's mission aligns with the things I care most about.”
