Centering Our Communities in Recovery: Culturally Responsive Support in Delaware
The Connected Communities Recovery Program, a comprehensive support initiative created to serve individuals navigating Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) across New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties. While our program is open to all, it is intentionally designed with a culturally responsive approach that centers the unique needs of Black women and girls, ensuring they receive the care, respect, and resources they deserve.

Our Substance Use Navigators provide hands-on, compassionate support to help you find the care you need—without judgment. Whether you're looking for treatment, counseling, or just someone to talk to, our Navigators are here to connect you to trusted services and walk alongside you every step of the way.
How We Support Our Communities
Culturally Competent Care
We train our Community Care & Resource Navigators to provide inclusive, bias-free support rooted in Black experiences. We also offer this training to providers and organizations to combat stigma in healthcare.
Personalized Support & Assessments
Every woman’s journey is different. Our navigators take the time to understand each person’s unique needs - including mental health, trauma history, and social factors - to build the right care plan.

We partner with local organizations to create a network of care that is responsive, effective, and truly supportive. Our team hosts quarterly meetings and one-on-one sessions with providers to improve services.

Strengthening Black Maternal Health & Substance Use Movement
Black Mothers In Power is fighting for better support for Black women and girls in Delaware facing Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) at all stages of motherhood.
Through the HEAP initiative, we amplify Black women’s voices, provide education, and push for better access to care. We’ve gathered real stories, built a strategic plan, and created a substance abuse workshop to inform and uplift our community. Recovery is possible, and support should be accessible.
