Community Awareness & Resources
Black Mothers In Power (BMIP) is committed to building awareness, education, and advocacy around Black maternal healthcare across Delaware. Our work centers the voices, lived experiences, and leadership of Black birthing people through community-led listening sessions, workshops, and public education efforts that uplift real maternal stories and identify gaps in care within reproductive health systems.
We intentionally explore the intersectionality of Black birthing experiences, recognizing that maternal health outcomes are shaped by multiple, overlapping identities and conditions. Our work examines and centers the reproductive healthcare experiences of Black birthing people who identify as:
Differently-abled; experiencing homelessness; living with HIV/AIDS; survivors of domestic violence or sexual abuse; LGBTQIA+; currently or formerly incarcerated; immigrants; teens; Afro-Latinx; people navigating addiction; and more.
Through this lens, BMIP works to ensure that advocacy, policy, and care models reflect the full reality of Black families’ lives - not a one-size-fits-all narrative.
In addition to education and advocacy, BMIP provides direct community resources, including:
A Black Medical Professionals Directory in Delaware
Rental and utility assistance resources
A Relief Fund & Food Pantry Program, including a community outdoor fridge
Bail fund and legal defense assistance
Connections to maternal, postpartum, and family support services
We also believe community care is about celebration, recognition, and joy. Each year, we gather with the community to celebrate Juneteenth, honor Black men through our Give Him His Flowers initiative, and create spaces where Black families are affirmed, supported, and uplifted.
JOIN US IN CELEBRATING
