SUICIDE AWARENESS WEEK: BMIP GOES LIVE

Join Black Mothers In Power (BMIP) for a special LIVE conversation during Suicide Awareness Week focused on suicide awareness and prevention, Black women, maternal mental health, and maternal health care.

JOINING US LIVE

  • Keshia “Kay” Jenkins, Founder of Birthing Brilliance Collective

  • Aysia B, Founder of The Mama Program

We’re bringing together experts, advocates, and community voices for an open and necessary conversation about the unique mental health challenges Black women and birthing people experience - including pregnancy and postpartum mental health, depression, trauma, barriers to care, warning signs, and how we can better support those who may be struggling.

Mental health is maternal health.

We’re breaking the stigma, sharing resources, and creating space for conversations that can save lives.

LIVE - September 11th at 12 Noon

Come listen, learn, ask questions, and share with someone who needs this conversation.

DELIVER US: Film Screening & Birth Center Fundraiser

Join Black Mothers In Power at Penn Cinema on the Wilmington Riverfront for a powerful evening of film, conversation, and action.

BMIP presents a special screening of Deliver Us, followed by an intimate conversation with the film’s director, Jenny Kwandham, and a panel of midwives.

Meet the Filmmaker

Jenny Kwandham is a documentary filmmaker and producer focused on stories at the intersection of social justice, culture, and lived experience. A fellow of the Producers Guild of America’s 2020 Power of Diversity Master Workshop, she brings more than a decade of experience in production, operations, and long-form storytelling to impact-driven films.

A former talent manager, Jenny’s background in shaping narratives, developing voices, and guiding projects from concept to completion informs her documentary work. Deliver Us marks her feature documentary debut, following Black midwives across the United States as they confront the maternal health crisis and build community-centered models of care.

More Than a Film Screening

This isn't just a movie screening. We're raising money to help bring a birth center to Wilmington!

Come experience the film, hear directly from Jenny and the midwives featured in the conversation, and learn how you can support BMIP’s vision for a new model of community-centered maternal care in Wilmington.

Participatory Defense

Join Us for Participatory Defense - Holding Space and Fighting Together!

Black mothers and families in Delaware deserve support and knowledge when facing the system. Participatory Defense is a space where we come together to learn, organize, and fight for better outcomes. You do not have to do this alone.

If you or someone you love is facing charges, this space helps families understand the system and work together toward change. When communities organize, power shifts.
