Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in supporting our organization and joining us in empowering Black mothers and families in Delaware. Whether you're looking to donate your time, skills, or resources, we have various opportunities for you to get involved and make an impact in our community.

 

Available Opportunities for Volunteers at BMIP


Program Volunteers

Support BMIP programs by helping with recruitment, development, operations, or facilitating workshops.

  • Sankofa Doula Training and Certification Program: Train and certify individuals to support families during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.
    Volunteer tasks: Facilitate workshops, connect clients to Doulas, assist with recruitment.

  • Sisterhood Transitional Housing Program: Help families transition from homelessness to stable, independent living.
    Volunteer tasks: Cook meals, collect donations, provide financial coaching.

  • Postpartum Justice Program: Assist new mothers and families adjust to life after childbirth.
    Volunteer tasks: Facilitate workshops, connect clients to Doulas, assist with recruitment.

  • Domestic Violence Training and Support Program: Educate individuals and professionals about domestic violence and support survivors.
    Volunteer tasks: Facilitate workshops, connect clients to DV support, assist with recruitment.

  • Substance Abuse Support Program: Support individuals struggling with substance use disorders.
    Volunteer tasks: Facilitate workshops, connect clients to services, assist with recruitment.


BMIP Center Volunteers

Join us at our physical location at 2215B N. Washington Street, Wilmington, DE 19802 (Concord Ave. side).

  • Bail Fund Team: Provide support to individuals unable to pay for bail.
    Volunteer tasks: Advertise the bail fund, connect with families, outreach to local jails/attorneys, connect families to resources.

  • Relief Fund Team: Assist those affected by emergencies and unforeseen hardships.
    Volunteer tasks: Manage requests, organize drives, stock the food pantry, assist with ServSafe training, and stock the Community Fridge.

  • Communications & Social Media Team: Support our podcast, social media, and branding.
    Volunteer tasks: Create content, manage social media, engage with followers, recruit speakers for podcasts.

  • Community Outreach Team: Build and maintain strong community relationships.
    Volunteer tasks: Table at events, organize community events, host door knocking and house meetings.


BMIP Committees

Committees meet once a month for a 5–10-hour commitment. Committee leadership and membership opportunities are available.

  • Birth Center Committee (invite only)

  • Research & Policy Committee: Focus on public policy development, research, and data analysis.

  • Doula & Midwives Committee: Match clients with doulas and build relationships within the birthwork community.

  • Hospital & Provider Relationship Committee: Build relationships with hospitals, establish implicit bias training, review hospital policies.

  • Safe Sleep Study Committee: Recruit qualified mothers and identify resources for safe sleep.

  • Insurance Partnership Committee: Work with Medicaid, private insurance, and Tricare.

  • High School and Collegiate Ambassador Committee: Work with students to create an abortion Doula youth collective.

  • BMIP General Interns: Support general operations of BMIP with a variety of tasks.
