Medicaid and Private Insurance Reimbursement for Doula Services

BMIP believes all birthing people deserve a Doula, especially Black Women.

A Doula provides support to birthing people before, during, and after pregnancy. A major part of this service is to assist in tackling black maternal health disparities.

The problem is, a Doula can cost between $800 to $1200, which is tough for a lot of families to afford in this demographic.

Racism and Implicit Bias Training for Healthcare Providers & Staff

Black Women and babies are 2-3 more likely to die than white women and babies.

Regardless of social or economic status, or any other factors; all black women deal with these disparities. So, it is clearly not genetic.

The fact is, historical racism and current systemic racism are the major contributing factors to killing Black Women and babies, and it is time that the healthcare system and its participants are held accountable. Furthermore, it is time for them to become responsible for changing their thoughts and actions towards Black women and babies.

Doulas in Prison

It is essential that we are protecting our most vulnerable populations of birthing people in our state.

The Doula Birth Project serves incarcerated birthing people who face additional trauma from being imprisoned, restrained and separated from their baby.

The Doula assists throughout the entire pregnancy, attending to physical and emotional well-being before, during, and after giving birth.
