Position Title: Community Health / Outreach Worker – National Health Corps

Location: Delaware (In-Person)

Reports To: Executive Director or Program Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time (In-Person)

Compensation: Living stipend + Education award + Professional training

Position Summary

The Community Health / Outreach Worker provides hands-on, on-the-ground support for Black mothers, birthing people, and families in Delaware. This role is rooted in building trust, connecting families to care, and navigating systems that have historically failed Black communities. The Outreach Worker serves as a key bridge between families and community resources while representing BMIP’s mission for health equity, reproductive justice, and radical care.

Key Responsibilities

Community Outreach & Engagement

  • Build relationships with Black mothers, birthing people, and families in the community

  • Conduct outreach at community sites, events, and local programs

  • Facilitate workshops, health education sessions, and information sharing

Resource Navigation & Family Support

  • Connect families to healthcare, social services, and community resources

  • Assist families with navigating systems that may present barriers

  • Provide direct support and guidance on health, wellness, and maternal care

Program Implementation & Community Presence

  • Represent BMIP and the National Health Corps at events, meetings, and local coalitions

  • Collect and report on community engagement and program outcomes

  • Serve as a visible, trusted presence in Black communities across Delaware

Professional Development & Collaboration

  • Participate in training provided by the National Health Corps

  • Collaborate with BMIP staff and other service providers to ensure coordinated care

  • Support team initiatives and contribute to program improvement

Qualifications

  • Passion for maternal health, reproductive justice, and Black community care

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Experience with outreach, care coordination, or community support (preferred but not required)

  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with flexibility for community needs

  • Commitment to serving in-person in Delaware
