BLACK BREASTFEEDING WEEK
August 25th-31st
At Black Mothers in Power, we are committed to empowering and supporting Black mothers and parents in their breastfeeding and chestfeeding journeys. As part of our mission, we celebrate and recognize Black Breastfeeding Week to highlight the importance of Black breastfeeding and chestfeeding experiences.
Why is Black Breastfeeding Week Important?
1. Addressing Disparities: Black mothers face significant disparities in breastfeeding rates compared to their white counterparts. While these rates have been increasing overall in recent years, Black infants are still less likely to be breastfed. Black Breastfeeding Week brings attention to this inequity, fostering conversations and initiatives to bridge the gap.
2. Celebrating Black Breastfeeding Experiences: Black Breastfeeding Week provides an opportunity for Black mothers, parents, and families to come together and celebrate their experiences. It is a time to honor the strength, resilience, and beauty of the Black breastfeeding and chestfeeding journey.
3. Promoting Supportive Communities: Through Black Breastfeeding Week, we strive to build a strong, supportive community that understands the unique challenges faced by Black mothers. By connecting Black breastfeeding families, we create a space where they can share their stories, seek advice, and find encouragement.
How Can You Get Involved?
1. Attend Events: Black Mothers in Power organizes, promotes and shares various events during Black Breastfeeding Week. These events include educational workshops, panel discussions, support groups, and community celebrations. Check our website or social media platforms for upcoming events and join us to learn, connect, and empower the Black breastfeeding community.
2. Volunteer: If you are passionate about promoting breastfeeding in the Black community, consider volunteering during Black Breastfeeding Week. Your involvement can make a significant impact in raising awareness, providing support, and encouraging others to join the movement.
3. Share Your Story: Everyone's journey is unique, and sharing your personal experience can inspire, support, and empower others. Consider sharing your breastfeeding story on social media or our website. By doing so, you contribute to fostering a culture of openness and encourage others to celebrate and share their experiences as well.
4. Spread the Word: Help us spread awareness about Black Breastfeeding Week by sharing relevant information, resources, and events with your friends, family, and community. By amplifying the message, we can reach more people, break down stigmas, and create a more inclusive and supportive environment.
